About ASSEB

The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) is the statutory school examination and education authority of the Government of Assam. It was formed under the Assam State School Education Board Act, 2024 by merging the erstwhile Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). The Board came into existence on 13 September 2024. After the merger, SEBA functions as ASSEB Division I, which looks after secondary education and the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination for Class 10, while AHSEC functions as ASSEB Division II, which looks after higher secondary education and the Higher Secondary (HS) Final Examination for Class 12. The Board is headquartered at Bamunimaidam, Guwahati, and serves lakhs of students across Assam every year. Its work covers conducting board examinations, issuing marksheets and certificates, registering students and publishing circulars for schools, higher secondary institutions, students and parents. This Avedan hub collects ASSEB notices so that students do not have to search several websites.

Admission & Application Process

Most ASSEB processes are carried out online or through schools and higher secondary institutions, and the exact schedule is announced through official notifications each academic year. A typical cycle includes student registration and enrolment, HSLC and HS form fill-up with the prescribed examination fee, release of the exam routine and practical exam schedule, download of admit cards through the school or the board portal, the board examinations (usually held in February and March), declaration of results, and post-result services such as scrutiny, re-evaluation, duplicate marksheet or certificate requests and compartment or improvement examinations. For admission into Class 11 (HS first year), students who have passed HSLC apply to recognised higher secondary institutions during the admission window announced in official notices. Always read the full notice, note the last date, keep your documents ready (HSLC admit card or registration details, photograph, signature and identity proof) and apply only through official channels. Each notice posted on this Avedan hub links to its source so you can follow the steps correctly.

ASSEB Programs, Entrances & Scholarships

ASSEB conducts two major board examinations: the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination for Class 10 and the Higher Secondary (HS) Final Examination for Class 12. The HS examination is offered in Arts, Science and Commerce streams. The Board also notifies compartment or supplementary examinations, improvement opportunities and practical examination schedules through its circulars. After HSLC and HS, students commonly move on to Class 11 admission, polytechnic and ITI courses, undergraduate degree programs and entrance examinations such as JEE, NEET, CUET and state-level entrance tests. Scholarship and financial assistance schemes for school students in Assam, whether state or national, are announced by the Government of Assam and related agencies, and notices that affect ASSEB students are shared on this hub when available. Check the notifications below for the latest exam routines, registration updates, syllabus-related circulars and scholarship announcements.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Eligibility for ASSEB examinations and services depends on the examination and on the notification issued for that year. Regular candidates are generally students studying in Class 10 (for HSLC) or Class 12 (for HS) at institutions recognised by the Board, who have completed the prescribed registration, attendance and internal assessment or practical requirements. For admission to Class 11, candidates must have passed the HSLC examination or an equivalent examination recognised by the Board. Age limits, minimum marks, subject combinations, fee payment and document requirements are defined in the official notice, and special provisions may apply to private or ex-regular candidates, compartment candidates and students with special needs. Keep valid identity and registration details, recent photographs and school-issued documents ready. Because rules can change from year to year, read the complete ASSEB notification before applying and confirm any doubts with your school or the Board office.

Selection, Merit & Counselling

Board examinations are not a selection test, but ASSEB results decide a student's next step. HSLC and HS answer scripts are evaluated by the Board, and results are declared online with marks, divisions and merit positions for top performers. Candidates who do not clear one or more subjects may be eligible for compartment or supplementary examinations as per the Board's rules, and students unhappy with their marks can use post-result services such as scrutiny or re-evaluation within the dates given in the notification. Admission to Class 11 and to many higher education programs is typically merit-based, using HSLC or HS marks, and may involve online application, merit list publication and seat allotment or counselling rounds conducted by the concerned authority. For competitive and professional courses, entrance test scores are used alongside board marks. Follow each ASSEB and admission notice closely for merit list dates, counselling schedules, document verification and reporting deadlines.

Fees, Placements & Career Paths

ASSEB is an examination board, so there are no campus placements, but fees and career pathways matter to every student. Examination and registration fees for HSLC and HS, late fees, scrutiny or re-evaluation fees, and charges for duplicate certificates or marksheets are announced in official notices and may be revised from time to time, so always check the latest circular before paying. After HSLC, students can continue with Class 11 in Arts, Science or Commerce, or choose polytechnic diploma programs, ITI trades and skill courses. After HS, options include undergraduate degrees, engineering and medical entrance routes, teacher education, defence and paramilitary entry exams, and state and central government jobs that require Class 12 as the minimum qualification. HSLC and HS certificates issued by ASSEB, SEBA and AHSEC are widely accepted as proof of educational qualification, including for Assam government recruitment. Keep your marksheets and certificates safe in your Avedan document locker so they are ready for future applications.
