About Assam Agricultural University
Assam Agricultural University (AAU) is the premier agricultural university of Assam, headquartered at Jorhat. Established in 1969, it was the first institution of its kind in the North-Eastern Region of India. AAU is a statutory university under the Government of Assam, and its work covers three areas: agricultural education, research, and extension.
The university runs colleges and departments in agriculture, veterinary science, horticulture, fisheries, community science, biotechnology and related fields. It also operates regional research stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) that take farm technology directly to farmers across Assam.
As a large academic and research institution, AAU regularly recruits faculty, scientists, research staff, technical staff, administrative staff and support staff. This makes it one of the most important employers for agriculture graduates and postgraduates in Assam and the wider North-East.
Recruitment Process
AAU recruits through advertisements issued by the Office of the Registrar, Jorhat. Each advertisement carries an advertisement number and lists the posts, number of vacancies, category-wise reservation, qualifications, pay and the application schedule.
Most permanent and regular posts, especially KVK posts, are advertised with an online application window on the official AAU recruitment portal. Candidates register, fill in the form, upload documents and pay the application fee online. Contractual and project posts, such as Young Professional, Project Associate, Senior/Junior Research Fellow and Scientific Helper, are often filled through walk-in interviews or email and offline applications, as stated in each notification.
General steps:
1. Read the official notification PDF fully.
2. Check eligibility for the specific post.
3. Register and fill in the online form (or follow the offline instructions given).
4. Upload a photo, signature and the required certificates.
5. Pay the fee, if applicable, and keep a copy of the submitted application.
6. Track the written test, interview or document verification schedule on the AAU website.
Always confirm the dates, fee and process in the latest official notification, since they differ from post to post.

- Nationality: Indian citizen. Some posts, especially KVK and support staff posts, may require Assam residency or a domicile certificate.
- Education: Faculty and scientist posts need a Master's or PhD in the relevant agricultural discipline, and some need NET/ICAR-ASRB qualification as per norms. Technical and Programme Assistant posts usually need a bachelor's degree or diploma. Grade III and IV posts usually need HSLC/HS, graduation or ITI, as specified.

The notification sets the cut-off date for counting age and qualification. Candidates who miss that date can be rejected at document verification.
Selection Process
The selection process is stated in each notification and varies by post. Common stages are:
1. Screening of applications against the eligibility criteria.
2. Written test or objective-type exam for many regular, technical and non-teaching posts.

Selection for reserved categories follows the reservation policy of the Government of Assam. Where a notification does not describe the selection process in detail, AAU announces it later on its website.
Salary & Career Opportunities
Pay depends on the post and the pay level stated in the notification. Faculty and scientist posts follow the university's applicable pay scales and allowances. Technical and non-teaching posts are placed in the applicable pay level, along with DA, HRA and other admissible allowances. Contractual posts such as Young Professional, Project Associate, Senior/Junior Research Fellow and Scientific Helper pay a fixed consolidated monthly amount or fellowship, which is given in the advertisement.
