1. You must have North Eastern Region domicile
The student must have a valid domicile certificate of a state in the North Eastern Region:
- Arunachal Pradesh
- Assam
- Manipur
- Meghalaya

2. Class 12 must be from a school situated in the North Eastern Region
The student must have passed Class XII or an equivalent examination from a school situated within the NER through a recognised Board of Education.
For the 2026-27 academic session, the relevant Class 12 passing year is 2026, because the scheme applies to students who passed Class XII in the preceding year and are entering the first year of UG study.
3. You must be in the first year of a regular UG degree
You must already be admitted to the first year of a recognised undergraduate degree programme through Regular / Full-Time mode.
The scheme is for the student's first UG degree. Integrated and dual-degree programmes are covered according to the scheme rules; for dual-degree programmes, the scholarship is limited to the UG component.
4. Parental income must be below ₹4.50 lakh
The combined annual income of the student's parents from all sources must be below ₹4.50 lakh.
5. Your institution must be eligible
The college, university or institution must meet the eligibility conditions of the scheme and have a valid AISHE code for accessing the National Scholarship Portal.
Eligible institution categories in the scheme guidelines include qualifying UGC institutions, eligible deemed universities, government-funded institutions and Institutes of National Importance, subject to the scheme's conditions.
6. Only one first UG degree is covered
Students who have already acquired a UG degree are not eligible to use Ishan Uday for another undergraduate degree.
Is There a Minimum Percentage Required for Ishan Uday Scholarship 2026?
The official Ishan Uday scheme material does not state a fixed minimum Class 12 percentage. Instead, the official FAQ and guidelines state that fresh scholarships are selected on the basis of state-wise merit among eligible applicants.

Ishan Uday Scholarship 2026 Selection Process

The scheme also provides for 10,000 fresh scholarships every year. State-wise slots are allocated based on the population of the respective North Eastern state, and unfilled slots can be redistributed among other states according to the scheme rules.
The guidelines also provide for 3% horizontal reservation for differently-abled persons. The 2021 scheme guidelines further describe a 50:50 distribution of slots between broad subject groups, including Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Law and Management on one side and Science, Engineering, Technology, medical and related fields on the other.

Step 1 - Complete NSP One Time Registration (OTR)
One Time Registration (OTR) is required for scholarship applications on NSP. The current NSP announcement states that OTR can be generated using Aadhaar or Aadhaar Enrollment Number (EID). Save your OTR number because it is used for scholarship applications on NSP.
Step 2 - Complete face authentication if required
NSP currently uses face authentication as part of its OTR process. Students may need the NSP OTR App and the AadhaarFaceRD app on the phone for authentication.

Special Note for Students with Disabilities
For the 2026-27 academic year, the NSP student announcement states that disabled students must first log in to the UDID portal and provide consent to share their UDID details before submitting their NSP application. Otherwise, NSP says they may not be able to submit the application.
Can I Get Another Scholarship Along With Ishan Uday?
The Ishan Uday scheme's own FAQ states that a student can avail of only one scholarship at a time.
