Salary and Benefits
Both posts are placed in Level 4 of the Pay Matrix, ₹25,500 to ₹81,100 (7th CPC). Other benefits include:

- PET is qualifying in nature and carries no marks. You must qualify in every event.
- PET is not held for Ex-Servicemen, but they must qualify the PST, written exam and medical examination (and the skill test for Motor Mechanic).
- Female candidates must submit a self-declaration of pregnancy status at PET/PST.
Written Examination Pattern
The written exam is objective type (MCQ) and carries 100 marks. The notification states a duration of 2 hours, and the mode (OMR or CBT) is decided by ITBP. For the Counsellor exam, the notification states there is no negative marking. For Motor Mechanic, follow the instructions printed on your admit card.

Practical (Skill) Test – Motor Mechanic Only
Candidates who qualify the written exam, up to ten times the category-wise vacancies in order of written marks, are called for the Practical (Skill) Test. It carries 50 marks and is qualifying in nature, with 50% marks required to qualify. The final merit list is prepared on the basis of written exam marks.

Medical Standards and Tattoo Rules
- Eyesight: Distant vision 6/6 (better eye) and 6/9 (worse eye) without glasses or lenses; near vision N6 and N9. Visual correction of any kind is not permitted.
- Colour vision: CP-III by Ishihara. Colour-blind candidates are not eligible.
- No knock-knees, flat foot, varicose veins or squint. Candidates must be in good mental and bodily health.
- Tattoos: Religious symbols and names (as followed in the Indian Army) are allowed only on the inner side of the left forearm or the back of the hands, and the size must be less than one-fourth of that part.
- Candidates declared unfit in DME can apply for Review Medical Examination (RME) within 24 hours by submitting the signed consent. The RME decision is final.

Important Instructions
- Category claims without the required certificate at verification will be treated under the Unreserved (UR) category, and change of category is not allowed later.
- Biometric verification is done before PET/PST. Mehndi or similar material on the fingers that stops fingerprint capture can lead to cancellation of candidature.
- Mobile phones, calculators and electronic gadgets are not allowed in the exam hall.
- Selected candidates may be required to serve a minimum period as per the notification and are liable to serve anywhere in India or abroad.
