The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) released the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2026 notice on 7 September 2026 for approximately 2,536 tentative vacancies of Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Data Entry Operator (DEO) and DEO Grade 'A' in various Ministries, Departments and Offices of the Government of India. Candidates who have passed Class 12 and are aged 18 to 27 years can apply online at ssc.gov.in until 7 October 2026 (23:00 hours).

SSC CHSL Vacancy 2026
SSC has announced approximately 2,536 tentative vacancies. The number can change after the user departments finish scrutiny of their requirements.
- Post-wise and category-wise vacancies will be published on ssc.gov.in under Candidate's Corner > Tentative Vacancy.
- SSC does not collect state-wise or zone-wise vacancies. Candidates should ask the concerned user departments for that information.
- Reservation for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, ESM and PwBD follows the requirements reported by the indenting Ministries and Departments.
- All posts carry All India Service Liability, so selected candidates can be posted anywhere in India.
SSC CHSL 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Nationality
A candidate must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries with the intention of settling permanently in India. Candidates in the last two groups need a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.
Educational qualification

Candidates who have appeared in the 12th exam can also apply, but the result must be declared on or before 7 October 2026. A result that is only under process does not count.
Age limit and relaxation
The age limit is 18 to 27 years as on 1 August 2026. This means candidates must be born between 2 August 1999 and 1 August 2008 (both dates included). Upper age relaxation is available as below.

Only male candidates are eligible for any vacancies reported in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). BRO LDC posts also have physical and medical standards given in Annexure-XVI of the notice.

- Pay online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or Visa, MasterCard, Maestro and RuPay debit cards by 8 October 2026 (23:00 hours).
- The fee is not refundable and cannot be adjusted against any other exam.
- An application stays "Incomplete" if the fee is not received, and it will be rejected.
- Correction charges are ₹200 for the first correction and ₹500 for the second, for all candidates.

Selected candidates are on probation for two years. In-hand salary depends on the post, department and city, and is not specified in the notice.
SSC CHSL 2026 Selection Process
- Tier-I (Computer Based Examination): objective questions, used to shortlist candidates for Tier-II.
- Tier-II (Computer Based Examination): Sections I to III in Session I and the Skill/Typing Test in Session II, both on the same day.
- Skill Test (DEO) or Typing Test (LDC/JSA): qualifying in nature and mandatory.
- Post preferences: filled through an online option form before the result. Choices are final and cannot be changed.
- Document Verification: done by the user departments after the final result, along with any physical or medical standards for the post.
The final merit list is prepared on the aggregate marks in Sections I and II of Tier-II only, subject to qualifying Sections III and IV. Tier-I marks are used for shortlisting and to break ties.

Tier-I is 60 minutes long, with a sectional timer of 15 minutes for each subject (80 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe). There is a negative marking of 0.50 for each wrong answer. Questions for Parts II, III and IV are set in English, Hindi and the language you choose in the application form.

Each correct answer in Tier-II carries 3 marks, and each wrong answer in Sections I, II and III costs 1 mark. Candidates must qualify in all sections.
Skill test and typing test
- DEO/DEO Grade 'A' in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, SSC and Ministry of Culture: 15,000 key depressions per hour, 15 minutes.
- DEO/DEO Grade 'A' in all other departments: 8,000 key depressions per hour, 15 minutes.
- LDC/JSA typing test: 10 minutes in English (35 words per minute) or Hindi (30 words per minute). You choose the medium in the application form and cannot change it later. Hindi typing must use the Mangal font.
- Candidates eligible for a scribe get 5 extra minutes.
Minimum qualifying marks
To qualify in Tier-I and in Sections I to III of Tier-II, candidates need at least 30% (UR), 25% (OBC/EWS) and 20% (all other categories).
SSC CHSL 2026 Syllabus Overview
- English Language: spot the error, fill in the blanks, synonyms and antonyms, idioms and phrases, one-word substitution, active and passive voice, direct and indirect speech, cloze and comprehension passages.
- General Intelligence and Reasoning: verbal and non-verbal questions such as analogy, classification, series, coding-decoding, Venn diagrams, pattern folding and embedded figures.
- Quantitative Aptitude and Mathematical Abilities: number systems, percentages, ratio and proportion, profit and loss, interest, time and work, time and distance, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry and statistical charts.
- General Awareness: current events, and India and its neighbours in history, culture, geography, economy, general policy and scientific research.
- Computer Knowledge (Tier-II): computer basics, Windows and MS Office, internet and email, and basics of networking and cyber security.
SSC CHSL 2026 Exam Centres in Assam and the North East
Candidates give three exam centres in order of priority, and all three must be in the same SSC region. Change of centre is not allowed later. Assam and the other North Eastern states fall under the North Eastern Region (NER), with centres at:
- Assam: Dibrugarh, Guwahati (Dispur), Jorhat, Silchar and Tezpur
- Other NER centres: Itanagar, Imphal, Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Shillong, Aizawl, Dimapur, Kohima and Agartala

How to Apply Online for SSC CHSL 2026
- Open ssc.gov.in or the my SSC mobile app.
- Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website. An OTR made on the old website (ssc.nic.in) will not work.
- Opt for Aadhaar based authentication during OTR if possible. It protects you from rejection over photo or signature quality and removes the need to carry photos and ID to the exam venue.
- Log in and fill the SSC CHSL 2026 application. Enter your name, date of birth and parents' names exactly as in your matriculation certificate.
- Capture your photograph live through the application module. Do not wear a cap, mask or glasses, and never photograph an old picture.
- Upload your scanned signature in JPEG format (10 to 20 KB, about 6 cm wide and 2 cm high).
- Choose three exam centres in one region, your preferred language and, for LDC/JSA, the typing test medium.
- Preview the form, submit it, and pay the ₹100 fee by 8 October 2026 if you are not exempted.
- Save a copy of the submitted application.
Documents Required for SSC CHSL 2026
For registration and application (if you skip Aadhaar authentication): proof of name, date of birth, address and gender, plus a photograph.
At Document Verification, when the user department asks for them:
- Matriculation or secondary certificate
- 12th mark sheet or certificate, and an equivalence certificate if your qualification is an equivalent one
- Caste or category certificate (SC, ST, OBC non-creamy layer, EWS) in the prescribed format
- PwBD certificate, and Ex-Servicemen documents such as the discharge certificate and undertaking, if applicable
- Certificate for any age relaxation you claim
- No Objection Certificate if you are already in government service
- Name change documents, if your name changed after matriculation
Important Instructions for Candidates
- Submit only one application. Multiple applications lead to cancellation and possible debarment.
- Your name, date of birth, father's name and mother's name must match the matriculation certificate, or the candidature may be cancelled at verification.
- Corrections are allowed only during 14 to 16 October 2026, at most two times, and only if your fee was received.
- Post and department preferences filled later are final and irreversible. Once a post is allotted, it is not changed if you fail its physical, medical or educational standards.
- Claims for reservation and age relaxation must be backed by valid certificates, or the candidature will be cancelled.
- Check ssc.gov.in regularly for the exam schedule, admission certificates and updated vacancies.
