Description

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official notification for the Junior Engineer Examination, 2026 for recruitment to Junior Engineer posts in various Government of India organisations/offices and Scientific Assistant posts in the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The recruitment notification carries a total of 1,748 tentative vacancies. The posts are classified as Group 'B' and carry Level-6 pay in the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix, with a pay scale of ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400. Eligible candidates can apply online through the official SSC website or the mySSC mobile application from 2 September 2026 to 22 September 2026 up to 11:00 PM. The last date for online fee payment is 23 September 2026 up to 11:00 PM. The essential educational qualification depends on the post. Candidates may be eligible with a relevant degree or three-year diploma in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or other prescribed engineering disciplines. The Scientific Assistant post in the India Meteorological Department has separate bachelor's-level educational requirements in specified Science, Computer Science, Electronics, Information Technology, Telecommunication and related disciplines. The crucial date for determining age is 1 August 2026. Depending on the post, the upper age limit is 30 years or 32 years. Applicable age relaxation is available for reserved and other eligible categories as per Government rules. The selection process consists of two Computer-Based Examination papers. Paper-I is qualifying in nature and is used to shortlist candidates for Paper-II. The normalized score of Paper-II is used for determining final merit. Paper-I consists of General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness and the relevant engineering/science subject. Paper-II tests the relevant subject. Both papers consist of objective-type multiple-choice questions. The tentative schedule for Paper-I is October/November 2026 and Paper-II is December 2026. Qualification

Qualification is post-specific. Candidates must possess the educational qualification prescribed for the particular Junior Engineer or Scientific Assistant post. JE Civil: Degree in Civil Engineering OR prescribed 3-year Diploma in Civil Engineering; certain organisations require relevant experience with the Diploma route. JE Electrical: Degree/Diploma in Electrical Engineering, subject to the organisation-specific qualification. JE Mechanical: Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, with experience required for certain Diploma-based posts. JE Electrical & Mechanical: Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering OR prescribed 3-year Diploma in Electrical/Automobile/Mechanical Engineering with the required experience for applicable organisations. JE Telecom: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology in the specified Electrical, Electronics, Communications, Computer Science, Telecommunications, IT, Instrumentation or related fields. Scientific Assistant, IMD: Bachelor's degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects OR specified Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Instrumentation, IT, Telecommunication/Communication Engineering and related fields.
