Description
The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, has released the India Post Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026 notification (Advertisement No. 17-12/2026-GDS, dated 20th August 2026), inviting applications for 23,759 vacancies across Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak posts in 23 postal circles nationwide, including 414 posts in the North Eastern Circle (Assam). One-Time Registration (OTR) opens 31st August 2026 and closes 19th September 2026. Online application submission and fee payment run from 2nd September to 21st September 2026, 5 PM. A correction window will be open from 23rd to 24th September 2026. There is no written examination or interview. Selection is based entirely on a system-generated merit list from Class 10 marks. Candidates must have passed Class 10 with Mathematics and English, studied the local language up to Class 10, and have basic computer knowledge and cycling ability.
Qualification
Candidate must have passed the Secondary School Examination (Class 10) with passing marks in Mathematics and English, from a Board recognised by the Central/State Government or a Union Territory administration. Must have studied the local language of the applied circle up to Class 10 from a recognised board. Additional requirements: basic knowledge of computer operation, knowledge of cycling, and adequate means of livelihood.

Selection Process
Selection is based entirely on a system-generated merit list prepared from Class 10 marks (converted to percentage to 4 decimal places) — there is no written exam or interview. Shortlisted candidates undergo physical verification of original documents by the Divisional/Unit Head within 15 days of shortlisting. On successful verification, a system-generated Offer of Provisional Engagement is issued, and candidates must complete pre-engagement formalities (including 3 days of basic training) within 30 days.
